Well, another week or so has gone by, and I’ve now tackled a rather enormous project that all started because of (you guessed it) … Pinterest! The project? My laundry room. You see, I’ve now lived in my house for just under two years and although every room is furnished and decorated, I also haven’t painted a single wall. The standard blah off-white greets me everywhere I turn. Yet I’ve been reluctant to dive in and start painting. I’m not sure why!
I blame (ahem – credit) the combined influence of several pins for my endeavor:

Armed with those ideas and the conviction that it was time, I set out to paint and redecorate my laundry room. Why did I start in the laundry room? I’d like to say that it is solely because I had the ideas, but the truth is that I’ve gotten some ideas for other rooms too. Part of my motivation was just that I didn’t want to spend a lot of money and so this room was a little more doable than the larger ones. But honestly, the biggest motivator is that the laundry room was small and therefore, a safe starting point.
I have only one picture of the “before,” I suppose because I didn’t really ever put much time or effort into such a utilitarian space.
Boring, isn’t it?
After a trip to Kirkland’s where I found a killer deal on a few glass carafes that were on clearance and another one to Lowe’s for a gallon of paint, I was ready to go. I’m definitely not a country girl nor am I ultra modern – “casual contemporary” perhaps. I actually surprised myself here because although I am not afraid of color, most of my house is rather sedate as far as color schemes go. But once the thought was in my head as far as my laundry room, I couldn’t erase it. So I went for bold. I painted it tangerine as I insisted on calling it over the phone with my Mom. (Umm, yes. It’s orange.)
I’m no pro and the pictures were taken with my iPhone so it’s hard to get a good idea of the actual wall colors, but regardless here are my after pictures of the (mostly) finished room. I ended up absolutely loving it and was actually glad to spend a little time in here doing laundry! I’m sure someday I’ll want to tone it down some – but for right now, it’s just what I wanted.
So, what do you think? Maybe next I’ll figure out a way to help myself enjoy ironing. (That may be too much to ask.)
So what’s next on my house project list? I don’t know yet, but this bedroom has really caught my eye. It would look spectacular in my back guest room…
